Graece Βάπται, nomen fabulae, a Cratino editae, a qua illi interitus contigit. Cum enim, in veter. Comoedia, Chori praecipue hae viderentur esse partes, ut potissimum, quos liberet, laederent; postmodum vero attritis Populi opibus et invalescente paucorum quorumdam tyrannide, Poetas metus potentiorum in officio benedicendi contineret: sublatus Chorus est, eiusque locô παρεκβάσεις quaedam fiebant, in quibus aliorum Poetarum dicta scriptaque, sine malesicii crimine aut poenae suspicione, itridebantur. Sed Cratinus, ad pristinam licentiam reverti ausus, Βάπτας, h. e. immersores, fabulam edidit, eô eventu, ut ab illis, in quos fuerat invectus, captus ac vinctus et in mare proiectus, eâ mersione fabulae suae nomen imitatetur.
